Charles Boyd, Costa Rica Charlie applauds new Osa Peninsula. Costa Rica Charlie applauds construction for the controversial airport in the Osa Peninsula, now slated for 2012-2016. Charlie and other land specialists in Costa Rica recall this controversy with the airport being put on hold several times by the government.
The current Costa Rican government, as part of its Peace with Nature Initiative, has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2021, only five years after the completion of the airport planned in the Osa Peninsula. The airport design incorporates Green technologies which are intended to meet these goals.
Initially, the airstrip will land 50 passenger airplanes with later expansion to an almost 10,000-foot-long runway able to land the new A-380 Airbus, the world’s largest commerical aircraft with a capacity of 853 passengers. Additional commercial flights are expected to boost the economy, and real estate initiatives which Charlie promotes and including the general growth of Costa Rica.
The new International Airport is one of the priorities of President Laura Chincilla’s administration boosted by an increasing shift in world and especially expat demand toward Costa Rica.
